Momentarily, Gabriel snapped. He grabbed her by the arm, teeth bared in a snarl, a muscle ticking on his throat. For a moment he could see the knife ripping up her front, splitting her open like just a lump of meat. Didn't she know what was good for her? Why couldn't she just shut up and leave him alone?! The boy pushed her harshly back and turned away, forcing himself to calm his breathing. One, two, three. One two three. Hold it.
"I can't go." His breath snagged in his throat, making him sound hoarse and tired. Blood pounded in his head, and for not the first time he thought maybe he should just put himself out, so he wouldn't have to deal with stupid, ignorant people. She didn't know anything about him, how dare she. After a beat Gabriel stalked past her and pulled a bag off the shelf, something he'd put there for safe keeping.
Fortunately, although Cobalt had gotten part of his belongings, he hadn't gotten all of them. The important stuff had been back in his room, but Gabriel had actually come out the library for a bit of research on his own. Tired of the subject, he'd gotten distracted, and well - nodded off. Gabriel thumbed through the contents of the bag and then tossed it on the desk, ignoring the thump it made.
Librarians hissing through their teeth at him were the least of his worries. There, the articles. He kept them with him, save the times he went out for 'work'. Gabriel had to force his hands to relax, to keep them from crumpling or tearing the papers he held. Finally, he found the one he was looking for, the one with the familiar face staring at him from the front. Gabriel shoved it into Cassandra's hands, ignoring the pain in his own.
The man on the front was a doctor, the name of who Gabriel didn't remember. He didn't care, either, the man personally hadn't bothered Gabriel, it had just been his orders that had given Gabriel so much hell. The title of the article was Disciplinary Academy Head Under Investigation For Illegal Drug Testing. A long title, barely fitting on the alotted space. That summed up most it. There was a short bit on how the school dealings had come to the attention of the authorities in the first place. How a student, under the influence of untested, unmarketed medication prescribed by the school, had suffered from a side effect, causing him to become enraged and attack another student. Both had been pulled from the school, hospitalized, the incident reported.
There was a list of other incidents, and a brief mention of how, even before the exposing incident, that medicated student had attacked someone else. That one had been covered up.
Gabriel had spent two weeks in an isolation cell.
"I. Don't. Go. To Doctors," Gabriel repeated, gritting his teeth and glowering at her. "I'll go to your little school nurse, but for my fingers. Nothing more. I just want them set correctly, all right?"
