A Sixth year slytherin wandered up the spiral steps of the Ravenwood tower. He was an emotional wreck, well suited to the label he had been given by many of his fellow classmates. Tonight, Shadonius had doned his usual attire. His black hair was streaked with white and blue, and straightened from his usual mess. A night coloured shirt remained unbuttoned upon his torso and red skinn-legged jeans were worn on his legs.
Slumping against the dusty wall of the tower, he stared out of the window. Shadow frowned, why had he messed everything up so much? His relationship was ruined, he was been hunted down by his own family and he had nothing to live for. Really...
Removing the Vans from his feet, he lifted himself so that he was sitting on the windowsill of the tower. It was a long way down below, all he needed to do was let go of the edge. 1... 2.... 3...... "I can't..." he muttered in a whimper. He couldn't do it but he remained sat where he was.

Lilly climbed the steps of the tower, intent on reaching the top soon enough to see the meteor shower that was suppose to happen tonight. She was dressed in a black button down shirt and black jeans with her Adio shoes on. She had been in such a hurry to leave the common room that she had forgotten to tame the wild mess of ebony and crimson that was her hair. So naturally she look like she had just stepped in from a nasty wind storm.
Of course she didn't expect anyone to be at the tower when she reached the top...but alas there was a kid she recognized from her house. Suicide? She wondered as she looked at him on the ledge. Lilly had been through those types of feelings before and even three attempts. She wondered what this boy was going through to think he had no way out. Silently she slowly walked up next to him and took a seat on the ledge.

Just let go for god's sake you pathetic soul, the split peronality in his head insulted Shadow's cowardice nature. He shook his head angrily, I should be able to do this! Turning his head suddenly in shock at the presence of the girl, he smiled weakly. He'd seen her around the common room a few times - as far as he knew, they would have been in most of the same classes, if of course, Shadonius had bothered to attend.
"I can't do it... I want to, but, I can't..." he murmered quietly, staring down at the hard ground metres below them.

She watched him, knowing exactly what was going through his mind. She had been down this same road, with the exception of a few details. But when he spoke she gently set her hand on his shoulder, "Believe me when I say it's for the best that you can't." She looked down at the ground so far below. "I tried...several times to end my pathetic existence. I thought there was no one left who cared...no reason to keep going." She sighed softly and glanced at the vague scars on her wrist. "But every time I tried I found that someone...somewhere...did care. The worst part was that I ended up hurting that person who cared by trying to take my life." She spoke all this in a meager voice barely above a whisper. "You do have people who care...somewhere...right here in fact." She offered her fellow Slytherin a small but true smile.
Blue eyes looked out to the light snow that had began to fall. "Christmas will be here soon...hard to imagine where the year has gone. Do you like Christmas?" Her gaze turned to him, a warm and understanding look in her eyes.

Shadow sighed, "It's good to know I'm not the only one." Flinching slightly as she placed a friendly palm on his shoulder, his muscles tensed. He wasn't really used to people touching him - especially a member of the opposite sex. He glanced across at her as she spoke about caring. "How do you care for someone, that you do not know?"
"One person, In the whole of the world - cared. And I lost her...There's nothing left to wait upon."
Although there were rare signs of tears upon his eyes, he was suddenly most grateful at her presence. Resting his head on his palms as they balanced on the ledge, he shrugged lightly. The clear answer was no, no he did not like christmas. Not for what it was, but simply for what had happened to his life four years ago on the 25th sun set of the twelth month. "It's, okay." he french accent whispered back, glumly.

Lilly felt his flinch so she slowly removed her hand from his shoulder. She needn't think long on his question before she answered, "You can care for someone that you hardly know by the simple fact of knowing that they are walking the same path you have or are on. In a way that makes that person connected to you...especially on such a path as this." She answered softly, almost scared that if she talked to loud her voice would blow the poor young man away. "Loss is part of life...rather it be death or simply an emotional break up between beloveds. Hopeless though it may seem, something will come along...be it another chance or another person who loves and cares for you more than the last one."
On the issue of Christmas, Lilly could tell by his tone that something was not merry about the holiday for him. "I hate Christmas to be honest. The holiday itself isn't bad...but my sister and newborn brother died on Christmas night...along with my mother." She sighed a bit, "I guess it's not fair to hate Christmas when it isn't the holiday's fault what day it lands on."

Shadow nodded, "I doubt anyone would look at me the same way." Sighing, he looked down at the miniscule roof-ledge a few metres below where they sat. He was glad to know that she cared for him, even if he did not know her name or indeed, anything about her.
Considering the platform below them, he smiled at her coyly before sliding of the ledge to fall onto the tiles below. It seemed everyone lost someone at the suposibly merry time of year. Losing his mother and suffering raep from the same murderer within the time space of a couple of hours, wasn't a happy feeling. Shadow glanced up at her as he stood on the tiles, "You can't stop fate. Christmas just gets lonely..."
He held out a hand, if she wanted to be helped down. "Anyway, I heard there was a Meteor shower tonight... Fancy watching from the roof of FFU?"
Post by Lilly Draven on Dec 10, 2007 14:30:56 GMT -5
She watched him slide off the edge, fully aware of the tiles only a sort drop down. She smiled at him as she leaned her head over the edge and looked down at him. "Personally I think just about every day of the year gets lonely to be honest." She took his hand and gently slid over the edge herself; landing gracefully on the tiles next to him. "The meteor shower was the reason I came up here in the first place so yes of course." She brushed back some messed up strands of hair from her face.
"I feel like I've completely forgotten my manner thought...all this time I never even told you my name. I'm Lilly Draven." She held out her hand for a hand shake from his. On top of FFU no lights hindered the view of the crystal clear sky. A silver sliver of moon was the only light besides the twinkling stars above. Oddly enough, despite the fact that no clouds were seen, a light snow still fell but the air didn't feel cold at all.

Shadow grinned and took her hand in his, "I'm Shadonius of Malfoy." It was not uncommon to decive his surname in such a way, he refused to take his father's name because of what he did. So therefore, he was not lying. Much.
Staring up at the sky, the slytherin teen ran a hand through his hair as he weaved his way onto the flatter platform of the structure. Falling lightly back so he was lying on the surface, he had a perfect view of the skies. Clear, but snowing. If he was more cheerful of a lad, he would of laughed at the concept - but he merely sneered. Shadow closed his eyes for a moment, he would give anything to return home to the snow in his homeland. But he didn't dare. "What exactly is a metoer shower?" he asked sheepishly, he knew the basics but he wasn't that much of a fan of astronomy. Even more so with muggle namings of events.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Shadonius." She gave him a smile and then followed him as he moved to the platform and laid down. Lilly lay beside him staring up at the skies...her mind wondering a bit to the winter days she use to spend with her family before the tragedy occurred. She missed those happy days but didn't think about them too much anymore. When he asked about meteor showers, Lilly turned on her side, looking at him and quoted her Astronomy book, "A meteor shower is a celestial event where a group of meteors are observed to radiate from one point in the sky. These meteors are small fragments of cosmic debris entering Earth's atmosphere at extremely high speed. They vaporize due to friction with the air, leaving a streak of light that very quickly disappears." She laughed a bit, "In other words is a bunch of shooting stars basically..." She trailed as a glistening light caught her eye, "And it's about to begin."

Shadow grinned as she lay down beside, turning slightly to face her as she asnwered his question. For a moment he listened, an eyebrow raised and gaped. He'd never been good at Astronomy, and hadn't learned much from the two lessons he had been mentally forced to attend by Munro. Luckily for him he understood the term shooting stars, he nodded and turned his gaze back to the sudden streaks of lights that were forming.
"Woah," he whispered softly. The nearest things he had seen, the most amazing thing he had seen (until that moment) was the muggle inventions of gunpowder - or gunpowedehh as he was unable to pronounce it. Even that had backfired on himself, being chased by a rogue firworks wasn't exactly exillarating.

Shadow's expression and reaction to the meteor shower made Lilly smile as she laid back flat on her back, staring up as star after star streaked across the sky in clusters of twenty or thirty at a time. Lilly loved these events...they always gave her the feeling of peace...or as if the sky was falling and all pain on the earth would soon end.
Every once in a while, Lilly would glace over at Shadow to evaluate his expression and possibly try to figure out what was going through his mind at the time. Most magical folk didn't enjoy things like this, but Lilly was an exception and hoped maybe more witches and wizards would learn to appriciate the beauty of nature that brought such peace and calm to Lilly's hectic and crazy life.

Shadow's blue eyes focused up at the clusters of moondust-stars streaked across the night sky. Once or twice, he supressed the urge to jump in fright or shock as a sudden particel would be brighter or faster. He's already made a fool of himself than other people.
"Gunpowedeh is like stars?" he muttered quietly, glancing towards her with a confused grin on his face.

Shadows remark made Lilly giggle lightly. "You mean gunpowder? Yes, I suppose gunpowder is a lot like stars. Though it sucks when you mess up and end up burning your eyebrow off like I did with the last little bit of gunpowder I had." She laughed softly, watching as the numbers of stars started to dwindle; which saddened her a bit since she so loved meteor showers.
Sea blue eyes glanced at Shadow, accompanied by a smile. "Did you enjoy the show?" She asked softly.

Shadow frowned when Lilly giggled. "Isn't that the same? I got chased by gunpowedeh, Gwen set it after me. She stuck one in my pocket... hence, my jeans were set on fire-" he grinned for a moment, before realising that it was barely a few hours after that incident, that they split.
Shadow nodded at her smile, "Yeah, I don't understand it but it's pretty."
