ooc: Continuation of "Return from Hell" at the Great Gates. Roan, Forgoil, Charlotte only for now. Please and thankyou. It will be open to all soon. Promise!
bic: Let's go through this again, shall we Carrie? I don't understand how anyone can get this wrong on the test. The first thing to remember as a nurse, is that time is the essence.
The number of times she had got that question wrong in theory made up for the immediacy in which it sprang to her mind in practise. Time was the element, and the situation she had found herself in was life or death. Not for her, but for the student that was lying on the stretcher in front of her.
Don't you dare panic now, Carrie! the nurse scolded herself as the Wing doors opened themselves as the Roan-laden stretcher stopped momentatily in front of them, followed by a very out of breath Carrie. "Okay, let's go."
Moving Roan from the stretcher onto a bed, Carrie summoned over the machine she needed, the one that would hopefully eradicate any trace of poisen from the Hufflepuff's body. She really did look like hell, like death warmed up.... if not worse. Maybe death luke warm? "Yeah, Caz, you just think about that," she hissed to herself, fumbling with clumsy hands to put all of the tubes together. "Okay, Roan, I don't know if you can hear me or not, but you don't look so good, and I don't care what you say, you're not fine. So, I'm going to hook you up to this machine, and get all the poisen out of you," Carrie's tone was firm for once, as she pulled back the girl's sleeve to reveal the inside of her lower arm.
"I swear if you don't calm down, woman," Carrie scolded herself again, stopping her hands from shaking for long enough to insert a needle into Roan's arm. "All this'll do is let the magic work, kay?" she explained shakily, watching as it did its work.
Or not.
After a few minutes, it became evident that the magic wasn't having the desired effect. "What the..." Carrie whispered, pulling out her wand again. Maybe it was time to search for herself rather than trust the words of the Gryffindor student who had come running through the school before. "Let's try this, shall we?"
With a muttered spell, Carrie's wand emitted a bright blue light which allowed her to pinpoint what the problem was. It turned out to be damage to the internal organs. "Great," Carrie hissed through gritted teeth, wondering exactly just what had happened."Okay, let's try again."
In moments one needle had been taken out, and the machinery packed away. Summoning a numbing potion, Carrie explained what she was doing as she prepared the shot, before inserting it into her upper arm. She was either numbed, or she hurt even more. "I'm going to send you to sleep for now, too, okay? Either that or you'll pass out, one of the two. I'm sure you know which you'd prefer," Carrie told the girl, using another syringe to put the sleeping potion straight into the system.
Only one more shot to go. Running over to the potions cupboard while the first two did their work, Caz tried to find what she was searching for. Shae had given her a bottle before she left Magic Horizons, she was sure of it. And at last she found it. A Poisen Damage Antidote.
If that didn't work, she had no idea what would.
Poking a syringe through the top, and making a note of the name of the bottle, Carrie pulled the liquid up. "I hope this works," she whispered, letting the syringe empty into Roan's system and standing back to let the healing begin. The Hufflepuff girl's willpower would take it from here.
