Ryo made his way towards the hospital wing. After all, Ashelle had told him it would be the best place to teach him healing magic. The boy was growing restless with excitement. It was not so much the learning of magic that interested him per se so much as being able to use the practical or interesting spells.

(OOC: Yeah, this old thread... Ok, if you don't mind I'll try from here. Oh, and I hope you don't mind if I kinda just start this thread from the lake thread since it was gunna end in the hospital wing anyway.)
The blackness around Ryo's eyes began to lift a little. The splotches of color told him he hadn't gone blind. He must have fainted and right in front of Chika. How embarrassing. The curious thing was that as he began to recover he felt the uncanny sensation of his center of gravity on his navel. Clearly he was being carried and he felt himself listing dangerously. Did they put him on a stick? Maybe a broom... How odd...
A small shifting of weight was the only give away that he was no longer being carried and was probably as his intended destination. There was a warm soft surface at his back now. A bed? Ryo opened his eyes slowly after taking a few moments to properly rest. He blinked a few times and looked at Ashelle who he thought had been the one to carry him.
"Hmm, this doesn't mean my healing magic lessons are canceled does it?" Ryo asked, with a slight bit of disappointment in his voice.

As soon as she got to the Hospital wing, she flew to the nearest bed. The broom putted as she brought it to the ground next to a bed. Chika gently pulled Ryo off her broom and on to the bed. All that was left was to wait for the nurse.
Chika pased about nervously. She hoped Ryo would be alright, and that he hadn't come down with a feaver or something nasty like that. Feavers were always the worst. Chika looked for a chair and pulled it to the side of the bed that Ryo was on. Maybe sitting would calm her down. Chika sat and the chair gave out a squeek.
Chika Jumped up in joy when Ryo oppend his eyes. " Kanagawa-san? Are you ok? Do you feel Feaverish? Do you need any help?" Chika bombarded Ryo with lots of questions.
She paused her questions when He asked if the lesson was still on. Was he alright to take a lesson in this condition?

((OOC: np, this is fine I shall reply tomorrow, for it is 12:12 and I have school tomorrow. College is so daunting!
I ish back from teh Daunting College! Lights, Camera - Role Play!))
Ashelle hadn't been able to reply to Chika, (she'd flown away so suddenly) that she was a Nurse. Still, without Ryo's limp body to hold her back, she was able to make a heroic dash up to the Hospital Wing, and got their before them. ((OOC: For those who say this is impossible, please see the previous thread where Chika likens her broom's speed to that of a turtle: firedepth.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=river&thread=4583&page=1#89189))
Once she caught her breath, Ashelle went to put on the Nurses apron and was just tying the strings when the two plodding fliers arrived. Chika quickly put Ryo to bed and sat down to wait for a nurse. Ashelle decided it would be prudent to check Ryo's vital signs, and came over to do so. However, just as she stopped by the bed Ryo's eyes opened and he looked up at her.
"Hmm, this doesn't mean my healing magic lessons are canceled does it?"
He asked her, sounded disappointed. Ashelle smiled and gave him a sly look. She was about to reply when Chika began peppering him with questions. Once she was finished Ashelle said; "I won't require you to answer her questions unless you wish to, but if you want your lesson today, I must ask you answer mine with a straight and truthful answer. Why did you faint out there? Have you not been eating, or was it something else?"

Ryo simply blinked. In the time it took for him to register her presence, Chika assaulted him with questions. Granted, she meant well, but she was going to have to wait as his teacher to be was asking him a seemingly more vital question.
"Matteo, Chisama-san," Ryo said, asking Chika to wait. "To answer both questions at once, I'm not sick or eating poorly. The real reason was... well..."
He focused intently on Ashelle which might have looked a bit like a scowl. Ryo found trying to transmit this thoughts out of his fox form quite challenging but managed to send his thought to her mind. The reason has to do with Chisama-san... err, Chika and well, it's kind of embarrassing to admit that, and would be much more so if I said it aloud.
Turning back to Chika as if he simply wanted to give Ash a funny look, he answered her question quickly. "I'm fine, but thanks for asking." He gave her a small hug and felt his heart beat faster.

Chika stopped her assault of questions when Ryo told her to stop. " Gomenasai Kanagawa-san." Chika felt it was right to respond in Japanese. He then gave them a answer.
Chika was glad that Ryo seemed alright. Ashell spoke to Ryo and told him that he didn't have to answer Chika. Chika felt a little bit ashamed that she had pushed so many questions on Ryo
Chika watched as Ryo gave as Ashelle a funny look. Then he told her he was fine. Chika gave a sigh of relief and she excepted the hug. and gave Ryo a small hug back. "I'm glad your alright." Chika smiled.

It had been quiet a while since anyone had used Mindspeak on Ashelle and she was immediately reminded of Marc and Willow. Were they alright out there? She knew for a fact (or thought she knew) that Marc was safe with her family the O'Conners, but what about Willow? Despite having not made any kind of impression on her as a witch, Willow had become her good friend as a lycan. Ashelle hoped she was okay, and would come chat with her someday soon.
Still for now there was a wizard to deal with who somehow had the lycan's ability to make her hear his thoughts. More than that he seemed to be too shy of Chika to be able to pay attention to anything Ashelle might teach him while she was around. Perhaps with a few questions Ashelle could determine if there was any thing she even could teach him at the moment.
"Alright, so Ryo. have you ever made a healing potion before? A lot of this work is simply bedside manner and known witch potion or spell to administer and how best to administer it. What's the extent of you spell knowledge to date?

(OOC: no worries... my posts r painfully short most of the time)
Ryo smiled briefly at Chika and did everything in his power to focus on the redheaded witch. Her question had made him really think. The classes had been canceled for so long most of his spell knowledge came from self study. Something he felt might have made Felix proud... where ever he was. To be honest he wasn't sure exactly the scope of the question but he figured he would answer as best as he could. And gloss over his "dabbling" not that he really did much with it other than simple theory studying anyway.
"That's a little hard to answer as classes have been hectic if not nonexistent. As far as healing in specific, the only spell I know is a basic spell... I think it's episky. I don't have a lot of experience with potions."
To his knowledge he had never attended a potions class and had only looked at potions books in passing. Recipes or any other kind of list had never been his specialty. Although he was beginning to wish there was a bravery potion so he could have the nerve to ask out the Japanese girl once the lesson was over.

Chika smiled at Ashelle and Ryo. She then got up and leaned against the wall as to wait to make sure that Ryo was ok. She would have to ask him after this lesson. For now Chika thought she would have to get i on this lesson after all it would prove useful to Chika later in life.
Chika smiled as Ryo said all he knew was episky. Well at least he knew some kind of healing spell. Chika decided it was best to ask to join in. "hey Ashelle-san may I join in the lesson?" Chika asked Ashelle eagerly.
Post by Professor O'Conner on May 28, 2010 12:40:23 GMT -5
"Hmm, well episky is all well and good, but injuries and sicknesses come in many forms, it's best to know at least a few other remedies," said Ashelle. At that moment Chika asked if she could join the lesson. "Of course you can Chika, I am sure the Hospital wing has more than one cauldron, I've used them before when brewing for the cold and flu season. Come with me, please."
Ashelle lead them to the back of the Hospital wing and though a door with a stained glass window in the upper half. The room behind the door had a huge fireplace in the right wall and four portable fires under freestanding cauldrons along the right wall. A long table with a book stand in which a big potions book rested stood before some large glass windows on the remaining wall. These Ashelle waved her wand at, and they opened slightly to let in some air.
"It will get hot in here if we have more than one cauldron going," she said, "pick a cauldron and bring it closer to the fire and I'll give you some coals once we are ready."
Ashelle then went over and opened the potions book, flipping though the pages till she found it - the Pepper-up Potion.
Ashelle read the page aloud;
" The Pepper-Up Potion
Notes
A standard remedy for colds and winter influenza. Be warned though, for while this potion will have you feeling in tip-top shape instantly, it will leave you smoking at the ears for several hours!
Ingredients
150g feverfew leaves, whole
1.5 litres chili essence
2 small lumps jasper, 1 red, 1 yellow or mottled
1 gill finest brandy
36g althea root, diced into cubes approx. 2cm square.
1 mooncalf hoof, powdered
1 sprig peppermint
Method
Chop the feverfew very finely with a black-handled knife, ensuring that absolutely no stalk is included. Meanwhile, place the red jasper in the bottom of an already hot cauldron, and add the chili essence to the boil. Once this is done, toss in the feverfew with the yellow jasper. The potion should start to smoke immediately, turning viscous and sickly orange-yellow in colour. Stir carefully for 1 minute in a clockwise direction to ensure none of the mixture spits out – at this stage it is a potent skin irritant, causing blisters to appear almost instantly on contact. Dragon-hide gloves are strongly recommended. Leave the potion to simmer for 3 minutes, and gradually add the brandy, stirring alternately clockwise and anti-clockwise as you do so. The potion should stop smoking at this point, and when it does so, add half the althea root and all the powdered mooncalf hoof. Stir thrice anti-clockwise, and wait for the potion to turn green. Once it has done so, add the rest of the roots, and gently place the peppermint onto the surface of the mixture. It should sit without sinking. Leave the potion to simmer once more for 6 minutes.
The end product should be a frothing, fizzing substance, blue in color. It smells and tastes like concentrated black pepper and Tabasco, but this pungent and often unpalatable taste may be modulated with not more than three dashes of syrup of betony and bramble, or a few drops essence of boomslang."
"Feel free to ask any questions you like, or come look at the book - just keep an eye on your cauldrons once you start cooking it. all The ingredients are in the closet beside where you got the cauldrons. I'll be glad to help if you need it."

Ryo jotted down note until Ash was done but looked at the book just to be sure he got it all down correctly. He collected the ingredients and organized them making sure they were all labeled and properly measured. He felt a little strange handling the brandy. At least in the muggle world, he was extremely underage. Ryo swirled the orange-ish liquid around a bit, mesmerized.
Ryo blushed out of embarrassment when he caught Ashelle giving him an odd look. "Oh, umm, right. I'm ready," he said bringing his cauldron close to the open flame.
Chika smiled as Ashelle said she could join. She then followed Ashelle as she when threw a door in the back of the hospital wing. Chika watched as Ashelle opened the windows to let in some air. Ashelle said something about having more then one cauldron would make it hot.
Chika then followed Ashelle's instructions again, and grabbed a cauldron and brought it to the fire. After Ashelle read to them about the potion they were going to be doing. Chika grabed the ingredents and started prepping them for the potion.
Once she was done she noticed Ryo blush and she wondered why he did that. She then turned to her cauldron. " Ok I'm ready as well. Now what? "

Ashelle carefully got out three pairs of dragon hide gloves, placing two on the table nearest each student and putting one on herself. Then she took the tongs and put five hot coals from the fire onto the fire pans of each student.
"There that aught to do it. Now that you have your fire, you may begin brewing. Remember there is no shame in checking the book, just don't get anything on it, it belongs to the school." Ashelle put the tongs back in their place. She left the gloves on however and watched the two students closely as they began their potions.
"I wish Professor Birchheel was still around, she was better at this than I, and she was a good friend." Ashelle sighed and thought about her classes with the potions mistress fondly.

Thanks to the benefit of advanced eyesight, Ryo only had to scoot the table upon which the book rested up a few inches before he could read it with ease. Doing so, he then donned his dragon hide gloves and started on brewing his potion. To save time, he placed the red jasper in while lining up the feverfew for cutting. He cut slowly and carefully as he had little experience with knives. Even still he found himself kicking his gloves here and there. He poured in the chili essence into the pot and watched for the tell tail bubbles of a boiling liquid.
He threw in the yellow jasper and then... nothing happened. At least no smoking and the liquid was still fairly thin. Ryo stirred it for roughly a minute with no change. Starting to panic, he checked his ingredients again and slapped his forehead with his palm when he noticed he had only added half of the chili essence. He liquid quickly thickened and was changing from a blood red to a bright orange. The smoke was overpoweringly spicy and caused Ryo to retch. He silently wished for a nose plug.
"I-I'm ok," was all he could manage before retching again. He shifted upwind of the nearly noxious mixture before stirring again for the prescribed one minute. He allowed the potion to simmer watching with interest as he poured the thin orange alcohol into the large black cauldron. He diced the althea root as the potion simmered making sure to stir it from time to time in alternating directions. After it stopped emitting its (to Ryo's nose) toxic fumes, he added half of the roots and reached for the peppermint.
He reread the directions and instead grabbed the mooncalf hoof power. He sighed in frustration. This was the second near miss he had with the potion. Several minutes and a few stirs later, his potion turned a sickly yet satisfying green. He added the last of the root and the peppermint. Several more mintues passed and finally it was a light fizzy blue. He didn't dare try it for just the smell was making him sick all over again.
