The door to the History of Magic classroom swung open yet again, and the Headmaster stepped in wearing his new standard of red robes. He looked around the empty room and then marched over to his desk, taking a seat and summoning books from around the room to him. He flipped through a few of them, and then looked up at the clock ticking above the door.

Morgan was the first to arrive in class. Interesting, since she hadn't been since Felix started attending Firefox. Was the Head Boy ill? Morgan didn't recall seeing him at breakfast that morning, but she hadn't really been looking for him.
Oh well, even if he was ill or otherwise incapacitated, no doubt he would be up and running off to 'save the day' in no time.
"Good Morning, Professor," she said as she took her customary seat in the front row.

The sixteen year old prefect entered the room and took his staple seat in the center sending a wave at Morgan. He wondered if Morgan still liked him, or did she hate his guts too? After all, he had dueled her boyfriend and kicked his ass. Then again, being the girlfriend of a demon must not have been very easy....
Students were bustling about as they went about their way to their respective classes, some taking longer as they conversed among themselves or busying themselves by checking over all of their supplies. From the corner of the farthest end of the hallway, there came the sound of running footsteps accompanied by a voice shouting in a thick Rhinelander accent. "Get out of zee way!" shouted the voice and skidding around the corner came a German boy who looked quite frantic.
Now granted, there probably weren't many people that would recognize him because he got pulled out of the University before the summer. His father had discovered that he was up to his usual antics, putting his love for quidditch above all other things, and brought him back to Frankfurt for a "real" education. Things didn't improve there at all for the boy, and with his mother finally stepping in, his pappa finally decided to let him return to Spain. So here he was again and he was more determined than ever to stay. The only thing that still had him on edge was the first impression he'd make and how horrible if he were late.
Spotting the History Class, the blue-haired boy ran full tilt as he dodged students and evaded the larger groups of them that got in his way. He was almost there, practically in the doorway, when he suddenly tripped on a loose shoelace and crashed into the doorway. Staggering to his feet, Konrad Maximillian dusted himself off and smiled in an almost dazed manner as he walked over to the nearest, vacant seat. Collapsing into the chair, Konrad pulled out a notebook and a pen, preparing himself for whatever was thrown at him, and waved briefly at those in the classroom.
So much for a first impression.
Soccer, Rugby, and Quidditch all have one thing in common: I win in all of them.

Another History of Magic class? Ryo was actually a little happy. No, he wasn't a history buff. It was just that history was memorization or in the case of the last class, applying facts to analyze historical texts. Both of which the snake found less than difficult.
Ryo entered the room and took a seat in the front. He bowed right before sitting and greeted the headmaster.

Running in between the legs of the second year, or more accurately scurrying in, was an average sized ferret. It had dark, rich fur in stripes of a golden and dark brown color. The ferret hopped up onto the professor's lap and from there onto his desk, sitting and looking directly into his sapphire eyes with his own blue-green.
Well, the next History class had already come to be. Sam rather enjoyed the first one, when they covered the Lamia. It was rare to find a class that was just exciting as it was relaxing. Sam wondered if Professor Windwaltz was going to end up like one of those muggle beatnicks someday?
It felt good, coming into the classroom and seeing the usual faces. There were a few strangers too, though, a blue haired lad brooding in a seat close to the entrance, in particular. He offered the guy a nervous smile before heading to the front, only to flash his brainy and pretty House Prefect a much more confident smile. He decided to take his seat in front of the Headmaster's desk.
"Headmaster, g'morning." he said as he sank into the sofa comfortably.

Well it was time for another History of Magic class. Niobe was a bit more excited for this one after seeing Professor Windwaltz teach the first. He was an interesting man that intrigued the Hufflepuff and made her curious enough to come to class. Some people would find it boring, but she was always interested in learning about magical history. Her quiet nature took hold when she entered as she didn’t verbally greet the Professor but she smiled at him when she walked in. Taking a seat on the side of the class she drew out a quill and parchment for notes.
The quiet note taker was who Niobe was, though she was definitely alert and there was no sign in her blue eyes that she’d be dosing off. Wondering what the topic was going to be for the day she sat and waited for the rest of the students to arrive so that the Professor could begin.

Morgan wasn't the only one who had noticed the absence of the Head Boy. Talon glanced between the clock and his class expectantly, watching the time slip away and Felix's appearance seeming less and less likely. The Headmaster decided he might write to the Gryffindor boy later inquiring whether he was sick or not. It wasn't like Felix to miss out on any class, let alone history.
Talon briefly looked down at the ferret and a look of pleasant surprise crossed his face. He didn't say anything, but instead smiled and pet the creature on the head with his finger. The Headmaster got up from his seat and addressed the class, clapping his hands together as he was often wont to do to get people's attention. "Welcome back, everyone!"
He cleared his throat, "Before we begin today's assignment, I'd like to have a brief introduction into what it will be on. Throughout mankind's history, there has always been a recurring myth of people taking the shape of animals and changing society both for the good and the bad. This is told through fables that exist even unto muggle society. Now we wizards know that such cases of therianthropy, or humans turning into animals, are no myth, but completely true in the case of such things as lycanthropy, or werewolves."
The Headmaster stopped for a moment, and then continued, "however we all know that there are no such things as were-panthers, or were-cats, or were-dolphins or were-coyotes or any such things as that. Lycanthropy is a terrible disease and should not be belittled in such a fashion. Yet the myths remain that man, both good and bad, have taken the forms of animals. Can anyone give me a reason why this might be the case?"
Talon couldn't help but feel a small grin appear on his face as he then said, "I'll give you a hint, actually." He turned and pointed his wand at the Ferret on his desk, saying "Homorpho!" On his desk, where there was once seated a tiny little rodent, there was now a certain Hufflepuff Prefect.

It didn’t take long after she arrived for the class to begin. The topic of humans transforming into animals intruiged her. Of course she had heard of lycanthropy and people being werewolves, especially more whispers of such things since she had come to the University. There had been warning against going into the Woods because of such lycans that lived there. Now were they going to learn the history of creatures like this? And not only that but other cases where wizards turned into animals. Her mother had attempted to learn how to be an animagi but had failed at it, and Niobe never had any hope of mastering magic enough to become one so it wasn’t a topic she had explored much.
When he asked a question the Hufflepuff felt the courage to answer for once. Maybe it was just the peculiar nature of this Professor that didn’t make her feel quite so shy. All she needed was him transforming Connor out of his animagi form to make her smile and raise her hand to answer.
“There is usefulness to becoming an animal for a time Professor, that’s why people choose to be animagis. It can give disguise for those who wish to sneak around or mobility if someone chooses the proper animal. And all creatures have their advantages such as increased sense or perhaps being able to breath underwater if someone chooses the right creature. Instead of having to carry things around like gillyweed in their pocket they could just transform.” Her face went red as she spoke. Courage ran out on her and she stopped there.
That was the good things, she didn’t touch upon the bad. The advantages of being an animagi she had learned from her mother when she tried. The idea of someone becoming an animal because of something bad was a bit hazy to her.

Conor had expected nothing less of the Headmaster. Of course, Windwaltz had been informed of the Hufflepuff prefect's new talent. He was actually the first to know, Conor was so excited. So, sitting on the desk of the classroom, all he could do was smile. This was his class now.
"Also, professor," he said after Niobe was done, "being able to turn into an animal allows us free access around Werewolves who have turned. Not so much lycans, though. It gives us the ability to disguise ourselves around muggles and naive wizards alike. No one would kill an innocent looking fox. We're animagi. A difficult thing to become, but given all the benefits, it's becoming more and more common."
(OOC: I'm going to presume this is a morning class...)
Ack. Late again. It was partially her own fault that Selena had slept in but skipping breakfast gave her enough time to make it to class right when the lesson started. She apologetically nodded in Talon's direction before taking a seat next to Momo. The third year (?) didn't even know anyone else in the class room besides the Headmaster and Morgan so that would make her a bit shy and 'quiet' was right behind it.
So the lesson was on lycanthropy and werewolves? Selly knew that lycans lived in the forest but wasn't too sure on werewolves. And did the Headmaster just call lycans a disease? That comment made the little Ravenclaw frown as she found that racist and briefly reminded her of a certain church.
And yet in a bored tone Selena had said, "Because muggle evolution states that we all behaved like and took the form of animals in one life time or another?"

Morgan too, had her hand in the air. "Many muggle fairy tales feature people turned into animals against their will. Could this just be the work of dark wizards gifted with transfiguration? And, there is at least one recorded case of someone using an animagus ability to not only fake their own death, but to frame someone else for their murder. If someone's animagus form was something small, like a rodent or an insect, or even something that wouldn't attract too much attention, like a cat or dog, it wouldn't be impossible to disappear from society, if you could keep a low profile."

Phugsius felt chills run up his spine at this issue, he might just sit this one out.... or maybe not.
Phugsius' hand was raised in the air. No doubt the headmaster and Conor would give him a knowing look about this issue.
"While you might be able to disappear from society for a good many years, Morgan, your mind may become more like the animal you transformed into. Thus giving your normal human qualities a more animalistic aspect since you've lived as that animal for so long. Which is why sometimes we have stories of people who bark at squirrels unknowingly, or start chasing mice without a second thought. Making some people seem crazy. Also there's a theory that staying in your animagical form too long may make it impossible to transform back"

Talon listened to the Hufflepuffs give their answers and nodded firmly, "that is correct. 10 points to Hufflepuff. The legends that pervade civilization on humans turning into animals are most likely the work of animagi of an ancient time, before our society and muggle society became separate." However, before he could continue his lesson, Selena Wolfsong expressed an opinion that left the Headmaster speechless and intrigued.
The professor smiled, "muggle evotuting, did you say? They believe we all behaved like animals and one point? An interesting theory...ingenious, muggles are, and I know there are plenty of wizards who'd want to tell you otherwise...perhaps, of course..."
He snapped out of his own musing, and said gently, "5 points to Ravenclaw for sharing such an interesting piece of muggle civilization with the class. I will tell Professor Cobalt we have an expert in the field of Muggle Studies amongst us." The Headmaster then turned his attention to the other two students.
"Yes, you are both correct. Miss Pendragon, you are actually venturing into what I wanted to cover. Though the power of the animagus itself is not considered the Dark Arts, it, along with several forms of transfiguration, can in fact be used for as much evil as it can for good," the Headmaster explained, "and has been in history. In fact, I'm afraid to say, the power of animagi has been used for the wrong purposes far more than it has for the right."
He continued, "this is why most ministries throughout the world force animagi to register themselves. It is as Mr. Driscol said - no one would considering harming a poor innocent fox, even if that fox happened to be a serial killer escaping from the scene of the crime. Remember the first law of wizardry...magic that concerns the self is often the one most easily abused."
He allowed that to sink in for a few moments, and then said, "and as for your statement, Mr. Charadus, you are absolutely correct. The animagus spell is simply turning yourself into an animal. It is the ability to maintain sentience while in your form that makes it such a very powerful form of transfiguration."
The Headmaster then looked out at the class and said, "does anyone have anymore questions on the topic before we go into your assignment for today?"
