This blonde boy now had her devotion in a way that usually only Tristan commanded it. She would never allow anything bad to ever happen to him again. Maybe she could get her father to use his influence to arrange to have someone look into this Xavier Lucre. No, then he would know that someone was on to him, and then maybe he'd do more horrible things to that poor girl. She'd think about it more when Lucre wasn't around, this wasn't something she could throw money at.
She listened carefully to his protests against her help, feeble though they were. She knew that these were things he had to get out. But as he said them, she couldn't help but counter each one mentally:
"But why? You know almost nothing about me.And I'm sure it would be deemed appropriate that what little of my business you do know of involves a level of trouble that no one would be able to shake off in nine lifetimes.
It's true that you're in trouble Lucre, but it's not trouble you went looking for. This was trouble that life thrust at you without your consent. Besides, you have a good character, what more do I need to know about you?
If ever your mother hinted about you steering clear of any so-called 'bad-boys,' then I'm most assuredly the one she was talking about.
First of all, my mother doesn't care what happens to me, she'd probably be overjoyed if I dropped dead of my own volition. Secondly, you're right, she probably does want me to stay away from guys like you. Good, caring guys. Instead, she'd probably want me to involve myself with some petty jerk who believes that pureblood supremacy crap.
Why should my well-being mean any mind to you?
It's enough that you're a human being. That's why it matters, and besides, I think you're pretty cool. It's okay to lean on somebody every once in a while, no one can go through life alone.
I'm a mere acquaintance in a sea of friends you've probably become submerged in since you've come here. Why would you-" He didn't have to finish that last question, it was written on his face. Why would she risk everything she had for him?
Because, I have no 'sea of friends'. I'm usually an awkward loner with too much free time on my hands. I have a few pals, some of the Ravenclaw quidditch team, and a few from different houses, but by and large, I stick to myself. You are the first person to completely pull me out of my shell, and I appreciate it. All things considered, I don't have much to lose, compared with what I have to gain from this endeavor.
She refrained from saying any of this aloud however, because just then, Lucre's hand gripped her shoulder. His eyes searched her own in a way that kept her from speaking. He was so handsome...No. Now was not the time. His head slumped forward, bringing the top of his head a few inches from her. It's okay, she wanted to say. Once again, however, she was halted from speaking because what he said next left her speechless.
"A guy would have to be blind though, to turn you down." She was so moved and pleased by this simple statement, she almost missed what he said next
"It's okay, Lucre we'll figure things out."
"I was probably gonna start copying off you in class anyway, so I guess its just as well you know ahead of time."
Wait, did he just say he was going to cheat?
